Our Story
Co-Founders, Kim Cinco & R. Juta Cinco
Baseline Design Studio was founded by Kim and Juta Cinco, partners in both life and practice. With shared roots at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and over three decades of combined experience, they bring complementary strengths to the firm: Kim with her thoughtful, client-centered approach and attention to detail, and Juta with his innovative mindset and expertise at the intersection of design and technology. Together, they are committed to creating architecture that balances beauty and sustainability, guided by integrity and a genuine respect for the people and places they design for.
Our Experience
Kim Cinco, Principal
Kim is a designer who has led residential projects from concept through completion across a wide range of scales and contexts. After graduating from Bates College with a degree in Philosophy, she earned her Master of Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Before co-founding Baseline Design Studio, Kim was an Associate at Jensen Architects in San Francisco for a decade, where she led custom residential projects and played a key role in advancing the firm’s business development practices.
Approachable and thoughtful, Kim is known for building trust with clients, collaborators, and consultants alike. She views architecture as a balance of the practical and the poetic, pairing rigor with restraint. At Baseline Design Studio, she refines early design ideas into clear, well-resolved architecture through careful listening, disciplined thinking, and steady leadership.
R. Juta Cinco, Principal
Juta is a designer whose passion lies at the intersection of design and technology. With a background in Biochemistry and Biology before earning his Master of Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, he brings a curious, iterative design approach to the discipline. His career spans small studios, international firms, and work in software and BIM consulting, shaping a broad understanding of the tools and processes that support design thinking and execution.
Naturally artistic and technically fluent, Juta uses advanced modeling, digital fabrication, and custom workflows to explore ideas quickly and test design possibilities with agility. At Baseline Design Studio, he leads with curiosity, collaboration, and a commitment to continual learning, ensuring that each project reflects both craft and innovation.
Our Approach
Our design approach is rooted in collaborative dialogue between ourselves, our clients, and our collaborators. We work closely with clients to understand their personalities and priorities, and with consultants and builders to test ideas against real conditions. Through an iterative process, we refine ideas, resolve constraints, and reduce uncertainty at every stage, leading to thoughtful, well-grounded solutions.
Across every project, our work is guided by two core values.
We prioritize creating a strong sense of place, shaping spaces with a clear identity that reflect each client’s vision, context, and way of living. Our work responds to site, climate, and daily patterns of use, resulting in architecture that feels intentional, grounded, and distinctly personal, with moments of quiet intrigue.
Resilience is central to our work. We design architecture that adapts to changing needs and environments, using Passive House principles to support comfort, efficiency, and long-term performance. Close attention to detail ensures that intent carries through to reality. How assemblies are layered, how materials meet, and how systems are coordinated all influence how a building performs and ages. Thorough construction detailing and precise documentation support continuity from design through construction.
